The building was a new teaching block for the College for new trades i.e. bricklaying, painting and decorating, plumbing (including Gas Safe), upholstery, carpentry and IT skills.
The mechanical installation consists of heating via radiant panels, underfloor heating to the third floor and radiators to the cores; domestic water services; above ground drainage in cast iron to the teaching areas; internal rainwater pipework in cast iron; general extract ventilation; toilet extract ventilation; teaching pod supply systems; BMS controls using Allen Martin control systems to integrate with the College’s site wide network; roof top plantroom with boiler plant, HWS generator and central extract fans. Specialist systems were installed to be used as part of the College’s teaching, these being a fan flued system connected to various gas appliances within the building and a wood waste extract system.
The electrical installation consists of new external HV transformer supplying a new distribution panel which will also serve future buildings; new distribution panel within roof top plantroom; distribution boards for general lighting and power; distribution boards for teaching area supplies; roof top PV system linked into new distribution panel; fire alarm; containment for data installation by client; disable refuge; security system; disabled toilet call system; lighting; lighting control via an LCM system; external lighting; power supplies for College supplied teaching equipment.
The building was completed in August 2013 in readiness for the new academic year.
